*Sticky Post - new posts below*

I'm excited to help spread the word to all my readers about SafetyCaps. Until I read about these and checked out the website, I had no idea my regular safety covers for my outlets were actually a choking hazard. Here I am trying to protect my children and I'm putting a choking hazard in their reach if they ever end up pulling one out - or I forget to put one back in (which happens far to often here.)

What's unique about these safety caps? -"SafetyCaps measure 2 1/4 inches in greatest diameter" so "if your child can't fit it in their mouth, they can't possibly choke on SafetyCaps."

They also have air holes that ensure you that your child will not choke on them, which kind of look like a pacifier.

After receiving mine in the mail, I immediately switched out my old safety covers for these new ones and was happy to see that they actually fit more flush with the outlet cover, were just as easy/hard to get out and they're clearer so less noticeable. Plus the obvious bonus - no need to worry about someone choking on them. I'm very glad to have these throughout my home!

Win It:

George, the inventor of SafetyCaps has a very generous giveaway for you readers. He would like to giveaway two entire household sets to two lucky Momma In Flip Flops2 readers. Also, if the winners purchase SafetyCaps before the drawing date and they are randomly selected he will give two of their friends and entire household set of SafetyCaps. Does that make sense. Basically if the randomly chosen winners have already purchased prior to the drawing date, he will give two of their friends/family members free SafteyCaps. Sounds great to me!

*Here's what I want you to do visit SafetyCaps and see how amazing these look and sound! Come back and leave me a message that's not just "love it, enter me, blah, blah" you know, something worth reading! For a second entry, blog about this contest linking to this post and to SafetyCaps. And if you link to me - or you're already linked you can have a third entry; just leave me the link in separate comments!

This Giveaway has been extended until Wednesday, July 30th. I will randomly choose the winners! Good luck!

*come back next week for another amazing giveaway.*

I did not realize that the old ones were a choking hazard either and I have them in every outlet in my house :(

I love the fact that these are the larger size and that they have air holes for added safety!

Thank you for the giveaway!

I love that this product is designed by a dad! I never thought about the dangers of the old outlet plugs. Great idea.

What a smart dad!

I'm impressed by the air-holes on the sides.
It seems like one of those things, where we look back & ask why it took so long to come to this idea.

Great giveaway, Andrea!
I'll add a blog post this afternoon.
Thanks.

I had NO IDEA regular outlet plugs were a choking hazard until you told me! Luckily we never had a prob with #1 but I think we better replace them with these before #2 is on the move!

It is a great idea to make larger caps to prevent choking, and should they still choke there are those airholes. But I wonder how well they work. Both my kids could pull out the outlet covers before they were one. Even when we bought the expensive ones they pulled them out.

i had no clue about that! my best friend is due in 8 days and i would to be able to give these to her!
thanks so much!

What a great idea. I never liked how the older once were small enough to put into babies mouths so always kept them high unless they were in an outlet. I also like the air holes for the added safety. Thanks for sharing these. I will have to look into these further. katie_mmartin at yahoo dot com.

I'm still using the old ones, never realized they were a choking hazard. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

These look so much better than the older ones. I couldn't get into using the older ones because they were just such a pain to get in and out, but I would definitely use these! I have a toddler and a new baby due in 2 weeks, so this would be a perfect time for me to get some!

This are a great idea. We just moved into our house a few weeks ago, and as I was plugging them in, I kept thinking, but they are so little...whats to stop them from taking them out and putting them in their mouths! This site is definately bookmarked! THANKS!!

I didn't know that standard sized safety plugs were choking hazards. Will bookmark their site.

I think these are a great idea. Even as my kids get older, I still like to keep plug covers on my outlets, because I never know when someone might bring a young child into our home to visit. I am so glad to see that there is an alternative.

This is great! By the look of the design it also seems that they would work better then the old ones anyway. I mean after you take out the same cover daily to plug in the vacuum eventually it becomes loose and doesn't stay in as well.

I hope to win. We are moving soon and have a house to babyproof!

I never realized the old ones were a choking hazard! I like that these fit the regulations for a pacifier and are choke proof! =)

I just bought a bunch of safety stuff for our daughter who is pulling up. But I never thought about her choking on the caps. I'm going to link to you. So count me TWICE!

Makes you think twice about what really is safe anymore! These sound really good to use.

Not only are these caps great for keeping toddlers out of the outlet, when combined with outlet insulators, they can contribute to phantom energy loss.

You can be green and safe at the same time!

Someone Being Me said...

Wow, I never thought about them being a choking hazard. That is scary. Please count me in.

paula h said...

I didn't know they made such a thing. My son is horrible about putting things in his mouth. I've caught him with a bug in his mouth the other day. Yuck.

Kristan said...

We were about to go buy regular outlet covers...now I feel much better informed about what we actually need. Like most babies, mine eat everything, and with twins it's harder to keep an eye on both of them constantly. Thanks for letting us know about these!

Thanks for the safety lesson. It is unfortunate that the others haven't been taken off of the market. Thanks for this great giveaway!

So, with a little one on the way we decided on outlet plugs... but then I heard they were not safe. I had NO idea there was another option out there! Thanks so much for posting this!!!

I am expecting my first child and my husband and I had a conversation the other day about buying plug covers. I had no idea they could be so dangerous and that there was such a great alternative out there! Thanks for the education info as well as the giveaway!

I think this is a great product! When my daughter first started crawling we were at Borders Bookstore and while I was showing a book to her dad in the children's section she stuck an outlet cap in her mouth the she found on the floor. I was so upset and ticked off that we left without buying anything. I wish I would have brought it up with the store, but was so angry I just wanted out of there!

CanCan said...

Wow, I didn't know this was a hazard either. Let me add this to my already long "worry list".
These ARE a great idea! 'The pacifier inspired design of SafetyCaps presents a potentially significant improvement in safety.'Too cool!

These are really a great idea. I have a two month old nephew and I have been talking with my sister about making her home (and mine) safe! This prize woudl really help with that!

Nancy Sabina said...

That seriously occurred to me as soon as I bought my first set of safety caps for myself. "They" are always saying "anything that can fit in a toilet paper roll is a choking hazard" and then "they" also say to buy these things small enough to fit! But I felt like there wasn't any other option! I'm totally crazy about safety. I always stick the small ones in my pocket with the points pocking me while I'm vacuuming or anything. That way it's so annoying that I don't forget to put it back! But a non-choking hazard would be even better!

What a great idea! At 14.99 I may have to buy some if I don't win!

Wow, that is really amazing. I had never thought about the others being a choking hazard, but that does make total sense! I mean we drill holes in everything else these days so that if it gets swallowed the kid won't choke on it, why not a "safety" feature? Good job there!
I am having a baby in September and am thinking about all the stuff we need to do to "baby proof" the house! This would REALLY help out a lot!!

Kathleen @ Katydid and Kid said...

I'll be babyproofing in the next few months so these would really come in handy. I never thought about the standard ones being a choking hazard. Thanks for the heads up!

FaithfulMommy said...

Wow, we are still using the old ones. I didn't even think my babies could swallow those. I like the new ones that are larger with the air holes. Cool baby proofing. Thanks!

This is such a unique thing to give. I have never even thought about the outlet covers being a choking hazard. It terrifies my to think what could have happened to my 3 children. I PTL that none of them ever touched it...but that doesn't mean that they still won't.

I didn't know that the other ones were chocking hazards. I used them with both of mine :(

I would love to win these for my niece who is expecting soon.

Had NO IDEA that the regular ones were safety hazards! I like that these are larger and are flush with the walls. :)

Lori said...

They do look like pacifiers, so I think that the fact that they have air holes is a good idea, I could see my little man putting on in his mouth.

holliberri said...

These are great. I had heard the old ones were safety hazards, but the ones that screw into the outlet don't work in our old house. This is just what I'm looking for.

I was so glad to find your giveaway, and the link to the Safety Caps. We are just about at the stage that we will need to start baby proofing.

Never thought that the plug in outlet covers would pose a chocking hazard. these look good and the baby cant pop them out and if he does he won't choke on it.. Will have to look into these more

Jon & Sarah said...

I never considered the outlet covers a choking hazard since I always had my mind on safety of plugs. This is a very ingenious idea to make them wider. Wow!

Little One's Baby Gifts said...

I always thought the outlet covers could be a choking hazard. I'm glad to hear that someone else thinks so too! I would love to win this giveaway because I have two boys under two, and choking hazards in my outlets. Thank you!

Richelle said...

With a little one around the house and one on the way, these would be wonderful. I also forget to put the caps back in occasionally, so these would prevent any choking accidents.

My one year old puts everything in his mouth- I had heardd that normal outlet covers were a chocking hazard so we've reverted towards moving furniture in front of outlets. I would love to win this set and return my furniture to a more useable and asthetic arangement! Thanks so much for the great giveaway! audrajjensen(at)msn(dot)com

We're thinking of adopting soon,so these would be great for the home-study portion of the process. I think it's great that they were designed out of necessity - and that the inventor's daughter is ok - thank God!
