Giani Granite Giveaway (Ends 3/28)

Want and inexpensive way to update your counter tops - bathroom or kitchen that just about anyone can do? Giani Granite Counter tops is what you're looking for, give your old counter tops a new granite look in a weekend and you don't even have to be a skilled carpenter. As I've said many times before my husband and I love updating our home so when I had the opportunity to work with Giani Granite I was excited to spruce up my kitchen counter tops without spending a lot of money and figuring out how to put in new and take out our old counter tops. As you maybe a bit reluctant while first reading, ( I was too) then I started reading and even checking out other reviews (just like this one).. I showed my husband and we couldn't wait to get started when we saw how amazing others had turned out. So here's how it goes...

Before we could do anything I cleaned our tops very well - there are instructions, no harsh chemicals and if you have big holes, etc they do need to be filled in. Luckily we did not have any holes. Once I cleaned all the grease and dirt off and let it dry I taped off the entire area.

Once that was ready we used the primer to completely cover the older counter tops. You easily roll it on and it honestly looks like tar. There are instructions about not wanting streak marks but it's easy to follow and my husband did it perfectly. Your kit comes with a roller and sponge brush so you have everything except you'll need a paint tray. This step requires that you wait 12 hours for it to dry - we did this step on a Friday evening so we were ready for the next step Saturday morning. I also liked that there was minimal smell so it wasn't a problem having my children in the house.

Step three was giving your counter tops that granite look. Applied with a sponge (provided) you cut it into different pieces. You do add the color onto paper plates which you will need to purchase. Then you start sponging on the three different colors, starting with the first, second, third and doing small sections at a time. This is really up to you how you want it to look, so everyone's looks different. You sponge it one as the directions tell - very easy and achieving the look you're going for.. really anyone can do this. What's nice is that you can easily go back and add more once the first layer dries so I would go light and then go back and add more if you want more depth. This is one thing I wish I would have done, I didn't want so much like when I saw other reviews, but I do wish I would have gone back a second time and added a little more for depth. When your finished this must dry for at least 4 hours. I recommend watching the DVD that comes with the Kit, VERY helpful.

After that four hours I was happy with the way it looked and we were ready for the final step.. the step to really give it that shine and granite look. You roll on what looks like a light milky/watery paint. This step you want to make sure you follow the directions completely so you don't have lines but one nice long smooth looking counter top. (Watch DVD provided) My husband did a very nice job and achieved a lovely shine looking nearly flawless. This step is required to wait at least 4 hours and then you need to do another but no more than three coats.
Our final step was finished on Sunday and it looked really nice. Then we added the new sink and 72 hours later were able to put small appliances back on the counter top. There are a few areas that look a little like a painted top but overall it looks really nice. It really gives my kitchen a new, great look.
I had to add the photo above of the real granite sample on the new counter top, can you tell much of a difference? I look forward to adding the new back splash and paint for a great new look!
