Tips for Spring Cleaning & the LYSOL Healthing Initiative

This past cold and flu season really took a toll on not only our family, but all the families we know. Not a day went by that friends were asking for prayers for sick family members, and the non-stop posts on social media accounts. Sometimes we are all just going to get sick, but we also need to do our part in helping keep our family healthy. I'm excited about this upcoming Spring Cleaning routine & thanks to LYSOL and some of their helpful Cleaning Tips, spring cleaning is going to make our home even healthier.

LYSOL has teamed up with YMCA's across the country for the LYSOL's Healthing Initiative, which is helping families to the Healthing Lifestyle. This concept of Healthing is centered on keeping families as healthy as possible.. not just by keeping your home clean but by taking different steps to stay well. Whether it be the perfect product to disinfect your home, good hygiene habits, or eating well, to name a few. To get the word out LYSOL, like I said is teaming up with the YMCA, but also television personality Giuliana Rancic who will be demonstrate healthing, with educational information, hands-on education and disinfecting products across the country for families. They will also be giving a one-year YMCA donation to deserving families.  This is just one way that LYSOL is helping keep families healthy and educate on this topic.

Are you planning a spring cleaning day or week? How are you planning on making your home a healthier one? As I mentioned I look forward to spring cleaning - I always get all gung-ho and desiginate one date where that's all we do. In all practicality that does not work for a large family, or for a 3600 square foot home.. so we will work on it over time, but I'm dedicated to working harder at keeping it  healthier one all year round.

Here are a few tips to help spring cleaning go smoother at your house from myself & LYSOL :
~ Don't let it overwhelm you. Take one room at a time and use products (like LYSOL) to help get the job done effectivily.
~ Start with the basics - wipe down easy to reach surfaces and then the little nooks. Remember to dust wall art, woodwork, window blinds, and even photographs. You may not notice it collecting there, but it does.
~ Don't take it all on yourself, the entire family can get it on making the home healthier. Assign tasks that can be done for even the little ones. I know my kids love this, it's like a game!
~ Make sure you're not just cleaning but disinfecting. It's important to keep things clean, but you need to be killing germs that live around your home. Don't keep spreading bacteria and viruses from surface to surface and family members. I really like the LYSOL Disinfecting Wipes for daily use.
~ Remember light switches, door handles, drains, cabinet handles, and commonly everyday touched surfaces.

One of my favorite tips is "Remember to practice proper hand washing as well after you clean, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or hand sanitizer. Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)." Going to nursing school this was planted into my brain like non-other, I remember washing our hands with a special soap for our hand-washing test and then the black light was put over them to see just how much bacteria was actually left... I couldn't believe it, and I washed good. Wash, wash, wash!

What kind of steps will you be taking to keep your family healthy? Start this spring with your spring cleaning routine and change your lifestyle to a healthier one. Check our your local YMCA to see if LYSOL Healthing Initiative will be in your area and take part in the activites and learning tools. Connect with Lysol on Facebook and check out their guidebook for more information on healthing.

"I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Lysol. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating."

  2. I have never enjoyed Spring cleaning. But when I finally get around to doing it I use Lysol. I guess that goes back to my grandmother always using it when I was a child. I always remembered that Lysol clean smell her house had. Of course now you have choices as to what fragrance you have for your Lysol. I always still use it though!
