She Tried Table for Six and It Worked

There's something about being happily married that makes me try to make matches for unmarried friends. One of these friends who I tried to fix up, Bonnie, is a bright, lively girl who I've known since high school. We always thought that Bonnie would get married young -- she certainly did -- but it didn't work out, and she's still single and moved to LA last year.

Since moving to California Bonnie has established her own successful business, completed a degree and become very involved in her community but, as she confided to me a few years ago, she really wanted to simply find a special guy and set up a home with him.

Finding a match when you're in your 30s isn't simple and I didn't have many expectations but sure enough, I got a call a few days ago with the announcement of Bonnie's wedding. When she called she told me all about their introduction which was brilliant in its simplicity.

There's a matchmaking service in California called Table for Six which organizes dinner engagements for six singles at each dinner date. The participants meet in a relaxing restaurant environment, chat, get to know each other and if no one clicks, they just move on to the next dinner, usually a week or two later. If, however, two people decide that they want to see each other again -- bingo! They can take it from there.

The staff of Table for Six interviews and screens all of the participants before sending them out to ensure that each group will be compatible in interests, backgrounds and, most importantly, life goals. Bonnie met her fiancé, Art, at her third dinner date and within three months they were engaged.

I'm thrilled for Bonnie and am starting to think about having a dinner party of my own for our single friends.

This is a guest post.
