When my husband and I were dating we were both still in college, I remember going to his parents house and his mom was serving apple dumplings for desert. Not being a huge dumpling fan I was reluctant, until I smelled them cooking and ate them for the first time. I guess you could say if food could win a girls heart, I have been won! They are SO amazing and I really don't know why I didn't think to share with you all sooner.
Peel and Core Apples - I typically use this recipe for five or six medium sized apples. Depending on the type of apples you use will make a difference as to how they taste as well, we get ours from a really old apple tree and the apples are baking apples.. no idea what kind that is.
You can make whatever kind of pie crust you want, but this is what I like. Nothing like homemade crust.
- 1 Cup Flour
- 3/4 Cup Shortening/Margarine
- 1/4 Cup Water
- Dash of Salt
Mix together well - use a fork or a pastry blender utensil. Divide into five and roll out to put around the cored and peeled apples pushing crust down in the middle. Place apples with dough wrapped around in a baking pan.
Apple Dumplings-
Mix together 1 Cup Sugar, 1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon & Pour in center of apples and all around. Put a dab of butter in center of each apple.
Boil Together -
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 2 Cups Water
- 3 Tablespoons Margarine
-1 tsp Cinnamon
Bring to boil and pour mixture over apples. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour. I typically put something under the baking dish because it tends to bubble over a bit!
Enjoy this is one of our all time favorite deserts!
These look so delicious I've never made apple dumplings. I'll have to Pin this.
