I definitely encourage imaginative, creative, role playing activities in my household and I try to limit video games and the amount of television my children watch. I'm not wonderful about it, and to be honest a lot of days I fail, but I try! To help encourage imaginative creative play, having products that encourage that play, around our home for my kids is very helpful. We have an entire closet full of various games, puzzles, etc that my kids love to get into (and tear apart..ha). A toy making company Manhattan Toys has been on my list as a company that carries unique products that step away from what you typically find in the toy aisles. Recently we had the opportunity to check out a couple of the products from Manhattan Toys' new series "Imagine I Can" and they've been real hits here.
My kids have been really into playing buried treasure lately so I chose the Imagine I Can, Pirate Treasures for them to check out. Immediately I was struck at the quality of the toys. No plastic junk that breaks after one time playing, but quality material, a compass that actually works and looks neat. A sword, rope, wooden treasure (coins), and even a map that's just a piece of paper to be torn. We've had the products for a few weeks now and, yes I do realize video games were given up during lent in preparations for Easter.. but I've been on my fair share of treasure hunts and we've all enjoyed it! This goes into my.. "toys that will last through all of our kids" list!
We also received the Imagine I Can Castle Climb, a game for kids of all ages, but only for up to three to play. Several different wooden castle pieces come in a little tin box with a die. The object of the game is to roll different colors to build your castle. The green color you pick a green piece, once you have that color you have to get the others. The first to build their castle by rolling the hot pink at the end wins. The castles are all different depending on what colors you roll first, second, etc. I didn't know how well this would go over at first, it seemed rather simple, but all my kids really enjoy it. It's been the go-to game for awhile now and doesn't last really long (perfect for right before bedtime game.)
I know we are getting close to Easter, but these Imagine I Can products are perfect to tuck into the Easter basket and they're quality made and fun, coming in a cute tin to store and keep together.
