It didn't occur to me until I had my own children how some of the classic fairy tales can be a bit scary for younger children. Yes, I definitely love those tales but I'm the mom who changes the ending or the "scary" parts for my children. I wasn't the only one who thought these stories could be a bit much for the wee ones and My1story has brought the classic tales to life with new titles and a bit of a twist. No scary endings, no tales that leave you feeling scared but are sweet and perfect for our kids. We received two books to check out called Lil' Riding Hood & Wolfie in I Love Cake as well as Jack's Beanstalks in Jack an the Magic Beans. Both tales my kids liked, but only when mommy made them not quite so.. how can I put it... frightening, but love the My1story books from beginning to end just reading every single word in the book.
In both books the story is similar, but like I said with a bit of a twist. Your child learns lessons about sharing, and others feelings all while being a fairy tale. In Lil' Riding Hood she loves to bake cakes with her Grandma, Wolfie loves cake too and tries to trick Lil' Riding Hood into thinking he's Grandma... Lil Riding Hood goes through all the same as the classic "what big ears you have" until finally Grandma points out that Wolfie just wants to get the cake for himself, but how sharing cake is much better with friends.
Jack and the Magic Beans story is like the original, he plants beans after getting them from doing a good deed for an older lady. When the beans grow over night he climbs up to mean a young giant named Beanie who is excited to see him with a Fe Fi Fo Fum. They play all day and in the end Jack takes Beanie's stuffed goose, Goosey. Beanie cries and Jack comes back, learning a lesson in not taking what doesn't belong to you. My boys really liked this one!
I have several friends who I know would love these books as their children are a bit more sensitive to scarier things and though I love the classics, I look forward to my children enjoying their true stories later on. My1story hit it right on with this idea and has other books to purchase through Amazon.com. You and your children will love the super cute illustrations from the books which come to you from Jaime Rodriquez, a former Walt Disney Company character artist. Visit My1story to view the child friendly website for games, videos and more about the books.
